Honourable mention to "The Wooden Wonder" Mosquito, could pretty much do everything pretty well and a lot faster than it looked.

I do like some of the yank bombers, seen a B-17 flying and it's lovely looking plane.

I was going say. The Germans probably had the better fighters until the engine developments later on. The British and American elements coming together in the Mustang being the best example.

I have an unreasonably special place for the Hurricane because I looked after one at the museum I worked at for a couple summers.

P51 was shit with it's original Allison engine but it became a beast when paired with the RR Merlin

Re: What's your favourite Luftwaffe aircraft of WW2?
Hitler didn't rate the Me 262 and halted it's earlier usage from what I've read, maybe that could have changed the outcome of the Battle of Britain. We had a jet in the Meteor but you never really hear much about it.

I think the later P51 Mustang was considered the all round best fighter of ww2, had the lot. But still lacking the beauty of a the iconic Spitfire.

Re: What's your favourite Luftwaffe aircraft of WW2?
I dunno, the BF 109 was at least equal in many ways to the Spitfire and when the FW 190 first came out it was light years ahead of anything we had until we upgraded the very upgradeable Spitfire, where the Luftwaffe did fall down was on their bombers, no heavies at all

Only just thought about it but funny that our planes were so much better than the German ones but their tanks were light years ahead of ours.

Our side

Lancaster

Not the sexiest but my great uncle died in one and I got to visit the Bazalgette Memorial Lancaster most every time we drove the six hours to my grandma's.

For us?

Obviously hurricane, spitfire, wellington etc.

My favourites are probably the swordfish and the beaufighter.

Mosquito for us is a great shout, could do everything from PR to bombing, pathfinding or interdiction

Probably the JU87.

Have always been interested in WWII aircraft - I blame it on my Dad building Airfix kits when I was a kid. Was gutted when he told me the flying wing from Raiders of the Lost Ark wasn't real.

The Germans tended to have more interesting aircraft - I guess due to their having more varied needs than us (expansionist plans versus bludgeoning Germany into submission). They had ambitious projects - bombing the US, the 3 x 1000 plans etc. We were focused on containing them.

On the Allied side I have always loved the Mosquito.

The Stuka had sirens under the wings, known as Jericho's Trumpets.

Liked the Ju 88, Foker Wolfe 190, Foker Wolfe 200 Condor and the Junkers 52

Collecting German ww2 stuff isn't that weird unless it's exclusively nazi orientated I'd say.

I know someone who has a German wallet made out of supposedly Jewish skin... may be a porky but thinking about the bloke it would not surprise me in the least
